DC Chargers for Electric Vehicles

DC chargers are rapidly becoming widely adopted for people who are serious about EV transition such as forward-thinking fleet managers.

DC Charging for EV offers very rapid charging speeds and is perfectly suited to vehicles that have long range or large battery capacity and requiring rapid turnaround. This includes not only passenger electric vehicles, but also larger EVs such as trucks, buses and garbage trucks.

DC charging is often referred to as Level 3 charging.

How fast is DC Charging? Well, for a passenger EV, every 10 minutes charged at 60kW will give you 60km of range. For every 10 minutes charged at 180kW will give you 180km of range. So they are very fast and very convenient.

DC chargers are becoming increasingly common along major transport routes between capital cities, but now customers are choosing to install DC charging for many EV fleet and commercial applications. Some businesses are choosing to install DC charging to attract a new customer base to stop for a while, for example at a service station or shopping centre.

There are two types of DC plug connectors
being used for EV charging in Australia

CCS2

Standard for Australia

CHAdeMO

Used for some Japanese EVs like Mitsubishi and Nissan Leaf
